Precision Alignment & Measurement
General Course Outline
In this comprehensive seminar, learn all about:
BASIC ALIGNMENT & BALANCING
This intensive 4-day course will provide attendees with the working knowledge to overcome
the most damaging and highly prevalent problems in rotating machinery. This course
combines theoretical and practical knowledge to enhance the troubleshooting skill and
carrying out corrective tasks capabilities.
Why Balance?
All rotating components experience significant quality and performance improvements if balanced.
Balancing is the process of minimizing vibration, noise and bearing wear of rotating bodies.
It is accomplished by reducing the centrifugal forces by aligning the principal inertia axis with the geometric
axis of rotation through the adding or removing of material.
Topics include:
- Basic Theory and Definition
- Symptoms & Causes of Unbalance
- Types of Unbalance
- Determination of Balancing Quality
- Principles of Balancing
- Single plane Balancing Procedure
- Two plane Balancing
- Balancing without phase four-run method
Why Align?
Understanding and practicing the fundamentals of shaft alignment is the first step in reducing unnecessary vibration, reducing
maintenance costs, and increasing machine uptime. Misaligned rotating machinery has caused, and will continue to cause, a tremendous
financial loss to every industry worldwide.
The premise of the course is to provide the students with the knowledge to accurately align any type of machinery in a variety of ways. There
are advantages and disadvantages to each system and it is our responsibility to insure that the students are aware of the various techniques to
measure and correct misalignment, in addition to helping them pick the best method to suit their individual needs and the needs of their company.
We want to instill in each student the confidence that they have the knowledge and ability to do the job correctly.
Topics include:
- Alignment methods and accuracies of each
- Equipment installation "tips and pointers"
- Soft foot condition and how to correct it
- Coupling types and alignment requirements of each
- Dial indicator method of alignment
- Tool set up for dial indicator method
- Bar sag calculations and offsets
- Calculations for shim requirements and machine offsets
ADVANCED PRECISION ALIGNMENT & MEASUREMENT - CERTIFICATION COURSE
This training course is designed to introduce the concepts of shaft alignment, equipment operation as well as a revue of applications and
troubleshooting.
Course Objective & Benefits
For a company to realize a quick payback on equipment and accrue continuing benefits they not only need to be able to understand how
they can use the equipment effectively and confidently and what the figures obtained mean, but how to solve the inevitable problems
which can occur.
To attain this level of competency the participants will receive hands on practical workshop, learn how to properly perform an alignment
procedure, learn what data needs to be recorded and to analyse problems and identify sources of error. They will be required to perform
numerous practical examples. At the end of the course a hands-on workshop will be conducted to assess the students on their level of
understanding the course lessons.
Target Participants:
- Engineers
- Managers
- Senior Level Management
